Speaking in psychodrama. The disturbing strangeness of a voice that comes from elsewhere
Bernard Robinson, PhD
Monday, the 8th of May, 9.15-10.30

Abstract: In life, not everyone has the same relationship with speech. In a situation of suffering, talking on a couch, “without seeing the other person”, is not possible for everyone. In order to hear and understand the voices that come from elsewhere and revive our history by reshaping it, some people need to talk to someone face to face, while others need to feel supported by a group and reenact and relive scenes from their history, in the «here and now». There are those who must first narrate in great detail all their misfortunes, as if these were concerning someone else, before realising that it is about themselves; for others, it is only in the gaps between the pieces of life that something can be heard. These voices, coming from an unknown elsewhere, say strange and familiar things at the same time, and it takes some time to understand them.

Therapeutic frames vary according to the relationship to the use of words. In psychodrama, the doubles, the antagonists, the director, the actors, the group, the audience, make us hear fragments of these buried voices, which themselves carry new perspectives, in the here and now of the psychodramatic act, and perhaps also tomorrow.

Bernard Robinson: PhD. in Psychology, psychoanalyst (Belgian Society of Psychoanalysis), psychodramatist. Former lecturer at the l’Université Catholique de Louvain (History of psychotherapies) and in the Higher Social Education (clinical psychology, psychopathology, theories of psychomotricity).*
